BLACKBOX CARBON: Chat Together #1
At Jatigede dam in Sumedang, West Java, there is a belief system called “Uga” (from “Uga Keyeup Bodas Aji Putih”). This belief system conveys the origins and predictions related to the local area, which ultimately also shapes the identity of its citizens. Meanwhile, far across the island of Java, memories of the cold war still haunt the people of the People’s Republic of China and help shape the identity of contemporary Chinese society. But, is identity a finished thing? Does it always have to be rooted in the soil where it grows? What if artists from Sumedang met and collaborated with artists from Taipei to then design an identity that could become a shared identity?
The Ring Project “Metaphors About Islands” invites artists from various backgrounds to share their creative processes in working with art collectives participating in the 3rd generation of Gudskul Ecosystem.
